Obama & McCain Agree on Agriculture!

Published by mcrose at 10:31 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Being a non-American but still having our televisions and newspapers filled with the presidential race, I thought that while my neighbours to the south voted today I would snoop around on the official sites of the two candidates and see where they stand on agriculture.  To my surprise their views are basically similar.

Both Obama and McCain are on the corn ethanol bandwagon both wanting biofuel ethanol increased substantially by 2012-2013 (Obama wanting more available than McCain…. they can’t agree on everything).

Both candidates agree that providing assistance to small farmers is the way of the future in American agriculture, in particular making it easier for beginner farmers to get in the industry.

Upon reading the two candidate’s views of agriculture I have to say that if I were voting today, based solely on their view of agriculture (I don’t have the time to dive into each candidate’s platform), I would have to put my X by Obama.  Reason being, he seems to have more of a concern about organic certification of farms, incentives for farmers lessening their carbon footprint, promoting research in animal waste management practices to make farms more self sufficient, and (I believe) most importantly assisting agricultural universities and extensions to attract more youth to this wonderful sector.

Remember, if you don’t use your right to vote you have negated your right to complain after all is said and done.
